WIA FUNDED School Program Application Process
Step 1- Get registered on the JobGatewaySM Website: www.JobGateway.pa.gov
To receive services through the PA CareerLink®, including job search assistance and funding for training you need to register and input a basic, up to date resume on the JobGatewaySM website. If you don’t have a computer, or don’t feel comfortable using one, you can register with assistance at any PA CareerLink® Office. If you are unsure where your local PA CareerLink® is or how to contact them, please refer to the list of all PA CareerLink® offices provided in your folders.
Step 2- Keep track of ANY and ALL of your Job Searching Activities
The JobGatewaySM Website will automatically keep records of any jobs you have applied to. Keep a written record of all of your job search activities including jobs applied for on other websites, newspaper ads, phone calls, applications etc.
Step 3- Attend the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Orientation Workshop
The workshop is approximately one and a half hours long and is given every Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the PA CareerLink® Office on 135 Franklin Avenue in Scranton, PA. Pre-registration is NOT REQUIRED to attend.
Steps 4 & 5- Attend the Resume Writing and Career Exploration/Decision Making workshops
You can attend these workshops at the PA CareerLink® office in Scranton. Calendars for workshops the PA CareerLink® office are available at the front desk or online at the PA CareerLink® Lackawanna County website at www.pacareerlinklackawanna.org. Pre-Registration is NOT REQUIRED .
Step 6- Complete Training Application & Documentation with Mr. Al Sharr
After you have completed the above steps, contact Mr. Al Sharr at the CareerLink® office in Scranton at 570-344-5959 to be scheduled for an appointment to complete your training application requirements. You will be required to bring certain documents to this meeting. These documents will include the following: Birth Certificate (if unavailable Passport, Baptismal Certificate or DD-214 can be substituted), Valid PA Driver’s License or PA Identification Card, Social Security Card. If you are collecting unemployment benefits or Public Assistance (Welfare) benefits, please bring verification of these benefits.
Step 7- Schedule and Complete Basic Assessment Test
At your meeting with Mr. Al Sharr, you will schedule a time and date to complete the WIN Assessment Test. The assessment is taken on a computer and tests three areas, Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information.
Step 8- Assignment of your Case Manager & Program Selection
After completing the WIN Assessment, you will be assigned a Case Manager. You will contact your Case Manager to arrange an appointment. If you have already chosen a training program, you will discuss your choice with you Case Manager. If you have not yet chosen or are undecided about choosing a program, your Case Manager will guide and assist you to make decisions about selecting the right program
